Olympic FlagAlthough they are called the 2012 London Olympics, they are spread all over the country.

People from the North West will be involved including athletes, volunteers and most certainly police officers, who will be making sure all the venues are safe places to visit.

This week I went to a Counter Terrorism conference and spoke to some of the key people dealing with one of the Games’ biggest concerns... the threat from acts of terrorism.

The first person I had a brew and a chat with was the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, Lord Carlile of Berriew QC.

He was keen to point out that terrorism law should only be used for its intended purpose and that the police had widely misused the powers of stop-and-search under Section 44 of the Terrorist. A re-think, he said, was badly needed.....More
